1.  Nutrition Program Report - Maureen Thompson

           Nutrition Revenues and Expenses

                 Attachment 1

           Meal Counts

                 Attachment 2

Food Nutrition Director Maureen Thompson gave an update on the nutrition program.  She provided information on revenue and expenses and meal counts (see attachments).  She explained that revenues are based on participation and the a la carte program.  Because students are in school only ½ time, less meals are served and fewer students are taking advantage of the meal deliveries even though they are free.  The drop in participation in school meals has resulted in a drop of revenues.  She said four food nutrition employees were laid off which is a $55,000 savings.  If the program continues to run at a deficit, there may be ASD budget implications.

2.  Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) – After school meals

The Child and Adult Care Food Program is an initiative through Full Plates Full Potential.  The guidelines of the program state you have to have an afterschool program that is available to all students and meets every day in order to be able to access the funds in this program.  The ASD does not have an afterschool program so it is recommended that the board opts out.  Even though we opt out now, if at some point the ASD has a qualifying program available, it can choose to opt in at any time.

Motion by Staci Fortunato to move the recommendation to opt out of the Child and Adult Care Food Program to the board for consideration. Second by Kevin Lamoreau, so moved 3-0.

Meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
