Eric Thomson
Capital Area Technical Center (CATC) is proud to feature Eric Thomson in our Leaders of the Future campaign. Since joining CATC in 2022, Mr. Thomson has made a significant impact as an Auto Tech instructor, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to his role.
Eric Thomson began his career in the United States Air Force, where he rose to a Military Working Dog Handler, specializing in bomb detection, serving with distinction during a deployment to the Middle East. After his military service, he transitioned to the automotive industry, working at an independent auto garage in New York. Recognizing the importance of education, he returned to school and earned an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Auto Technology from Erie Community College. He is currently completing his Bachelor's Degree in Career and Technical Education from Buffalo State College.
Mr. Thomson is committed to providing his students with a strong foundation in auto technology fundamentals. He emphasizes mastering basic tasks, such as oil changes and tire changes, before progressing to more complex projects. This approach ensures that students are well-prepared for a variety of career paths in the automotive industry, including roles in auto service, parts and detailing.
Under Mr. Thomson’s guidance, his former students have secured positions in reputable local businesses such as Darling's, Kirkpatrick’s Service and Repair and Charlie's Motor Mall. His influence extends beyond the classroom, fostering a network of successful professionals who contribute to the local economy.
Outside of his professional life, Eric Thomson enjoys riding his Ducati motorcycle, spending quality time with family and friends, and watching UFC matches, a passion rooted in his background as a high school wrestler.
Capital Area Technical Center is honored to have Eric Thomson as part of our team. His dedication to education and his students exemplifies the values of our Leaders of the Future campaign. We look forward to witnessing the continued success of his students and the positive impact they will make in the automotive industry.
