Carson Hope- Grade 2

Hope - Copy (4)

hi bitmojiMy name is Carson Hope, and I am one of the two second grade teachers here at Lincoln! Students know me as Miss Hope. I graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington in May of 2020, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree and two Maine teaching certifications: Early Elementary (K-3) and Special Education (Birth through 5). I am currently working towards my Masters of Literacy Education at the University of New England. This is my second year at Lincoln School, and second year teaching second grade.

Information for the 2021-2022 School Year:

This year, all student supplies will be kept in pencil boxes and will be replenished throughout the year as we will not be sharing supplies at tables. All second grade students are encouraged to bring a pencil box and a pair of scissors with them on the first day of school that they will keep at school for the year. Only small pencil boxes will fit in student cubbies. If possible, please send in the following items in their original packaging:
  • Pencils
  • Erasers
  • Glue sticks
  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Whiteboard markers
These items will be collected by the second grade teachers, and teachers will replenish students’ pencil boxes as needed throughout the year.

Donations of the following items would be VERY helpful, as they are used throughout the year. Please feel free to send these items in at any time during the school year:
  • Clorox/Disinfecting Wipes
  • Tissues
  • Ziploc Bags
  • Snacks to share (ex. Goldfish, pretzels, animal crackers – we like to keep snacks on hand in the classroom in case students forget to bring a snack with them to school!)

If there is anything else you’d like to donate to the classroom, please let me know! On the monthly newsletter sent home in students' Take Home Folders will be a current wishlist of items we need. Your support is much appreciated!

Each day, please send your student to school with the following items:

  • Take Home Folder
Students will receive their take home folder on the first day of school. Folders must be checked every day for important information and student work!
  • 2 (or more) masks
Masks will continue to be required in school according to CDC guidelines. Masks get soiled during the day and students often need to change them at least once.
  • Snack
We have a nut-free classroom, please do not send any snacks with any kind of nuts, peanut butter, or other nut products.
  • Filled water bottle, labeled with your student’s name
  • Weather-appropriate clothing, with layers!
Students should be dressed for the weather, but should also come to school with a sweatshirt or sweater in case they get cold. Students may leave a sweater or sweatshirt here at school with their name written on the tag.
  • Change of clothes
Feel free to send your student in with a full change of clothes in a labeled bag that can be kept in their cubby, or with a full change of clothes in their backpack daily.
  • Sneakers
For P.E. and Recess: Students can keep a pair in the classroom or bring/wear them daily. Please label the inside of the shoes with your student’s name if they will be leaving a pair at school.
  • Lunch (if your student is not having school lunch)

This year, I will be using the Class Dojo app to share important information with families. On the Class Dojo app, you can message me, which is a great way for us to communicate. In addition to the private messaging feature, I will be sending announcements about what is happening in our classroom and school. Please see the paper in your student’s folder on the first day of school for information to sign up for our Dojo classroom page.

During the school day, it is best to contact via email at or by sending me a message on Class Dojo (see above). I may or may not be available to come to the phone during school hours as I am giving students my undivided attention, unless we have a scheduled phone conference. Please feel free to call me at ext. 3901, and if I am unavailable to come to the phone I will return voicemails as soon as possible. Always call the office with emergencies or time-sensitive information (dismissal changes, etc.) at ext. 3900.

If you would like to support our classroom, please check out our Scholastic Book Clubs webpage and/or the flyers sent home monthly. Additionally, with the help of my amazing classroom sponsors, all students in my class will receive a free book to add to their personal library every month. Any items purchased using our class code WQD6J on the Scholastic website or by returning one of the monthly book club flyers will help us earn free books and other materials for our classroom!

I cannot wait to meet you and your student, and I am looking forward to a great year!
