Daniel Johnston

6th Grade Teacher

Welcome to my classroom website. The most accurate information can be found on my Google Website: Here. So, who am I? Well, I go by Mr. J and I teach sixth grade at the Sylvio J. Gilbert School in Augusta, Maine. I'm excited to start my 16th year here at the Augusta School Department, and 19th year overall. For 14 of the last 15 years I have been teaching sixth grade at Gilbert School. I have run a self-contained classroom where all subjects have been taught for that time. We will be doing a lot of exciting units and I am looking forward to a very productive and engaging year.

We actively use GoogleClassroom for keeping track of class assignments. Your children are capable of logging into their accounts from home, but it is necessary to have Internet access for this. For behavior management, we use a program called Classcraft which incentivizes good behavior and proper teamwork etiquette.

This year, we are doing partner teaching in 6th grade. Mr. Meader will be teaching math, science and social studies, while I will be teaching all reading and writing.

Homework will consist of a nightly reading homework which will be checked in their reading journals at the end of the next day.
