What if every fan could enjoy game day comfortably?
Cony High School senior Josh Lajoie is turning that idea into reality through his senior project: building a sensory room beside Fuller Field.
The idea began with Cony’s football coach, who recognized an opportunity to make athletic events more welcoming for children and community members with sensory processing challenges. Stadium noise, crowds, and bright lights can be overwhelming for some individuals. This dedicated space will give families a quieter, more comfortable place to enjoy the game without having to leave the event.
The project is also a great example of school and community partnership. Josh is leading the build through Lajoie Brothers, Inc., with students in the Capital Area Technical Center’s Building Construction program helping frame the walls. Electrical Technology students will contribute as construction progresses.
The Fuller Field Sensory Room is believed to be the first of its kind at a sports facility in Maine!
We are proud of Josh’s leadership and grateful to everyone helping bring this vision to life.
