Maine schools follow the provisions of the federal McKinney-Vento Assistance Act which supports students who do not have a fixed, adequate and regular nighttime residence.  The law helps minimize educational disruptions homeless students may experience.  The Augusta School Department strives to ensure homeless students are identified and provided access to the same free and appropriate public education as housed students in the school department.
