Fall 2023

Dear Parent/Caregiver,

Happy Fall!  We had a fabulous opening of school and we truly thank our students and staff for making this happen.  We wanted to update you about the upcoming testing information for school year 2023-24.

PSAT and SAT (optional for sophomores and juniors)

We have announced and had sign-ups for an optional PSAT that we are hosting on Oct. 19, 2023.  In addition, we are also hosting on SAT test on Oct. 26th at Cony for interested students who sign up.

Maine Through Year Assessment and NWEA MAP Growth

We are testing students in grades 7, 8, 9 and 10 at Cony Middle and High School in October and May this school year.  Students in grades 7, 8, and 10 will take a test called the Maine Through Year assessment and grade 9 students will take the NWEA MAP Growth assessment. Both tests are done on the student’s chromebook.

These assessments are required by the state of Maine and help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.  These results will provide a more complete picture of what your student knows and is ready to learn.  We will send results to parents/guardians as well.  This will help us identify whether a student it is on, above, or below their grade level.

We have scheduled testing for the following dates:

  • Grades 7 and 8 on October 12th and 13th
  • Grade 9 on October 10th during Homeroom, Period 1, RAM time, and Period 2
  • Grade 10 on October 12th during Homeroom, Period 1, RAM time and Period 2

NAEP

Selected schools are asked to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and Cony 8th graders were selected.  NAEP serves as the Nation’s Report card and will be conducted on February 28, 2024.  Only randomly selected students will participate in this testing.   More information will be coming if your student is selected for this testing.

MEA/New Meridian Science Assessment

In the Spring, we also participate in the required state testing called New Meridian Science Assessment for students in grades 8 and 11.  This assessment is designed to test students on the Maine science and engineering standards.  It will provide more comprehensive information about your student’s science knowledge and skills.   This is typically conducted in May.

We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. Let us know if you have questions.

Sincerely,   Cony Administration
