Congratulations to Cony's Fatimah Hatem for placing second and Miko Frecker for placing third in last night's Kennebec County Spelling Bee. After several rounds of intense and impressive spelling, Messalonskee emerged as the champion and will advance to the Maine State Bee next month. However, Fatimah will stand in the ready as the alternate. A shout-out goes to Mr. Davis and Mr. Scoville for officiating and to Ms. Morin and Mr. Michelson for tech support. Special thanks to Ms. Darby for coordinating the bee!

Today German 1 students met students online from our partner school in Puchheim, Germany. The students from Germany are in the 7th grade and have been learning English for 2 and a half years, whereas our students have had just 8 days of instruction. The students from Germany helped our students practice some of the things that they have learned so far in German: Alphabet, numbers and some basic greetings, questions and answers. Our students then helped the German students practice talking about everyday life in English, such as family, pets and hobbies. Over the course of the semester, our students will have many more opportunities in class to talk to these students again in order to practice their German and develop their cultural competence.
Special thank you to our School Counselors on this School Counselor Appreciation Week 2024! Hats off to Laura Richardson-Guidance Director; School Counselors Shawn Johnson, Heidi Mills, and Beth Russell!
